Welcome one and all to the Limited Sportsman Website.

The Limited Sportsman became a break away group from the Standard Sportsman class when Kevin Baker, of Horsham, called a meeting because of the lack of cars in this class and the changes in the rule book blowing out the costs.

This meeting was held in November of 1979 and the class began racing in the 1982/83 season as a low budget racing car, as a tear-away group, to suit the everyday working person, which it still is today.

In the early days of this class, they were predominately revamped old Standard Sportsman, which many were sitting around yards or in the back corner of the shed. The major changes were motors, rims and tyres. Motors were Holden 149 and Falcon 144 engines, visually standard maximum bore size of 40 thou and sports cams were permitted. Rims had to be ROH 6 inch steel with maximum tyre size being 195/13 or 14 inch recaps only.

Around 1989/90, the rules were changed to have Holden 186 motors or the equivilant Falcon motor fitted, which could not exceed 200 cubic inch absolute. Wheels were changed so that the maximum rim width of 180 mm was allowed. Any radial tyre deemed to be suitable for highway use were allowed and the maximum casing size allowed were 265/50R 14. These specifications still stand today and are used by most drivers.

This class races in a clockwise direction around the tracks mainly throughout the Western District, Wimmera, Gippsland and parts of South Australia and they are still competitive today in these regions. Both Victoria and South Australia hold State Titles each year within their respective states and a competitive Tri-Series has been set up which offers drivers and cars some fierce racing throughout the season.

During the 2009/10 season a drivers group was set up where each driver contributes to the running of this class and gives them some direction as to where the class is heading in the future. This Web site was funded by the drivers through a donation towards covering the expenses of this, posters and other related materials.
